Student Dorm Bed
Real estate developer Macro Sea worked with a non-profit 'study abroad' provider to convert a landmark industrial factory in the Kreutzberg area of Berlin into a new facility for foreign students.
The design includes new landscaping for the building’s two courtyards, new academic and student life spaces on the cellar and ground floors, 200 dormitory rooms, and the design of various amenity and support spaces throughout the complex.
Billings Jackson provided design consultation services for the dormitory bed, taking high-level design concepts provided by Macro Sea through to detailed design, manufacturer outreach and into prototype development. The beds, which may be single or bunk, are the centerpieces of each room and afford layers of privacy and solitude to each student.
